Md Hasan, 15, died undergoing treatment around 7pm, ten hours after he was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) burn unit, said the hospital’s police outpost Inspector Mozammel Haque.
At least 12 people, including Hasan, have died so far from severe burns while undergoing treatment at the DMCH.
Witnesses said a petrol-bomb was hurled at the parked bus around 9am at Sayedabad’s Janapather More in the city.
Hasan was sleeping in the bus at the time of the attack. He was admitted to the DMCH with critical injuries, Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Senior Assistant Commissioner (Demra zone) Minhajul Islam had said.
The bus, along other such vehicles, had been stranded at Sayedabad for five days because of a six-day blockade being enforced by the BNP-led 18-Party alliance.
The bus drivers' assistants usually spent the night inside the vehicles.
Another such employee, Apu, told bdnews24.com that Hasan was sleeping on the last seat. The vehicle had caught fire after three explosions.
“When we didn’t find Hasan, we realised he hadn't been able to get out. We brought him out after fire-fighters doused the flames. He was unconscious, and his body was still smouldering.”
Apu said one Md Salauddin owned the bus, driven by two drivers. But they were not around when it was torched.
Salauddin told bdnews24.com that one of the drivers, Liton, had hired Hasan as his assistant on Wednesday.
Hasan, son of Nazim Uddin, came from Noakhali.
