Youth killed in ‘gun battle’

RAB claims deceased Md Shafique, 38, was a mugger.

A team of RAB raided Borho Moghbazar early on Friday following a tip off about a group of youths moving in the area in a private car with an intention of mugging, RAB-3 Captain Mallick Fakhrul Islam told bdnews24.com.

The muggers fired at the RAB team forcing the latter to retaliate, he said, adding that the car hit an electric pole while trying to speed away from the scene.

The RAB team rescued injured Shafique from the spot and rushed him to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The Bangla Nagar police detained three other members of the gang when they were trying to escape.

The RAB official said Shafique was the owner of the private car and was driving it.

The RAB team recovered a foreign pistol, bullets, four machetes and 24 mobile phones from the car.

The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
